Small Groups are starting in the fall. We will be launching small groups in September! We have all different kinds of groups: women, men, young adults, family, etc. Here are four excellent reasons why you should join a small group at church.

#1: You were designed to live life in community.

At the beginning of time, God himself said it was not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18). Now, obviously, this was in the context of a relationship between a man and a woman. However, we can apply this into our lives today! It is not good for a person to be alone!

As Christians, we are called to build each other up (1 Thessalonians 5:11). How can we do that alone? We are designed to live life in community. The designer of the universe created us to live our lives together. We are truly better together.

The best way we can live our lives is in the context of community.

#2: A small group gives you support.

One of the benefits of a small group is for protection. The author of Ecclesiastes wrote that two are better than one (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12). In fact, we are told that if one person falls down, the other can help him up! I read a quote that said, 'You either just got out of storm, are in a storm right now, or about to be in one.' I know that is not very encouraging, but it is true.

When you are in a group, you have support. The people in your community group will build you up, pray for you, and be there for you. The very design of a church small group is to provide encouragement for the people who attend.

#3: Joining a small group gives you instant friends.

Another great benefit of joining a group is that you instantly can make friends! Now, I know making friends can take work. They take time and commitment. However, when you enter a small group you get to meet six to ten people who are willing and ready to make a new friend. As adults, this can be VERY difficult.

Seasons of Small Groups

At The Heart LA Church, our groups are in seasons. There are many reasons for this. One reason is sometimes your group may not be the right fit. That's ok! There is an exit ramp at the end of the season for you to get off and try another group. Another reason is that life can be extremely busy sometimes! Most of our groups run from six to eight weeks. We have a fall season that runs from September through November. Then we have a winter and spring season that runs from February through April.

#4: You can grow in a small group.

Never stop growing. As a child of God, we have never arrived. We are on a life-long mission to become more and more like Jesus. In order to do that, we must continue to grow and learn. In a small group, you have the opporutnity to grow. Whether we are reading through a book together or diving deeper into the sermons from Sunday, you will grow when you are engaged in your small group.

These community groups are also a place to ask questions. On Sunday morning, usually the person on stage does most of the talking. In a group setting, you have a chance to ask questions and talk through your faith. What a great place to grow with like-minded people of faith around you!
