Trying to Make It in Los Angeles
Trying to Make It

Thousands of people move into Los Angeles every year. The U-Hauls and moving vans might as well be our state flower. There is a wave of people moving out, but a crop of new people always fills their spot. One thing on many people's minds is, 'I'm trying to make it in Los Angeles.'

Camden's Story of Trying to Make It

One man who wanted to make it in this great city was Camden. He is better known as Yacobucci in his music circles. Camden is an extremely an amazing artist. He raps and sings and is incredibly creative. We first met Camden on a Sunday morning when a friend had invited him to church.

When we first met Camden, it was exciting because he was so passionate about what he did! He loved his work. He loved his music! He was trying to make it! His passion got me excited about the music industry and what he was doing!

For many months, Camden kept coming to church. He would sit in the back and exit pretty quickly after each service. I don't know when it happened, but eventually, Camden gave his heart to Jesus. I'm not sure if he raised his hand in a typical service or if he made that decision for himself. But it was the best decision he could ever make!

Eventually, Camden started bringing his friends. He was telling other people about Jesus and this new relationship he had! What an incredible time! Camden joined the worship team and began to use his talents for God's glory! Camden wrote a rap to perform with one of our songs on Easter Sunday. It was an incredible moment!

I remember he invited a friend to come and watch him on Easter Sunday. His friend raised his hand to enter a relationship with Jesus that day! Camden was reaching people for Jesus!

Camden gets water baptized!

Some time along the journey, Camden told us he needed to get water baptized. Camden was the first person to be baptized in our actual building! Along with three other people that day, Camden declared to the world, "I'm following Jesus now!"

This was a special moment in the life of the church! It was the first person that had been baptized that year. It was a catalytic moment! And it was a big moment for Camden as well. Water baptism does not save you. Instead, water baptism is an outward declaration of an inward transformation. God was doing a work in Camden's heart and he wanted everyone to know it!

The Final Show in LA Where He Made It

My husband, David, and I had the honor of attending one of Camden's shows in Los Angeles. It was in a dark clubroom vibe. "Yacobucci" as they called him, jumped on the stage and had so much incredible energy! He is a great performer. All his songs were good, but my favorite song was the one he dedicated to his Lord and Savior. It was called 'Count on Me/Oh Lord.'

"I came to LA to make it, but I found Jesus instead."

Camden Yacobucci

I remember sitting in that room listening to Camden. Before he started singing this song, he declared, "I came to LA trying to make it, but I found Jesus instead." Right there that night, I started tearing up because of the goodness of God. He was using Camden right here where he was making music to witness to his people. What a powerful moment!

In the summer of 2023, Camden moved back to Ohio where he is from. He wanted to be closer to his family. We felt like God gave us such beautiful moments with Camden. And we believe we sent him back to Ohio as a missionary of the gospel of Jesus Christ! He is going to reach people all over the world for Jesus!
